All boats are required to be registered if they are powered by a operational engine or auxiliary engine over 4 HP (3 Kw).
Exemptions apply to:
A tender (small boat used for ship to shore transport to & from the mother ship) to a registered recreational ship does not require registration if the tender is operated within 2 n.m. (nautical miles) from the mother ship AND have the words 'TENDER TO' and the mother ship's registration numbers, at least 75mm high, marked clearly on the tender.
